what is post covid lung fibrosis|how to prevent fibrosis?

Post Covid Lung fibrosis

Post- covid lung fibrosis is the issue which need to be addressed for avoiding complication related to lungs.

Many people are suffering from covid-19 virus or corona virus that causes pneumonia or lung injury because covid infection may cause post covid lung fibrosis.

And patient with lungs fibrosis could not breath properly dependent on oxygen or other artificial ventilators like bi- pap or ventilators.

Post-covid lung fibrosis

What is lung fibrosis?

Lung fibrosis is not a new medical problem actually, it is existed before covid period, but as cases of pneumonia has increased in corona period lung fibrosis is also increased in post-covid patient.

Lung tissue are very sensitive if they gets injured, so the normal function of these tissue (which is to exchange of oxygen) is also gets hampered. These tissue becomes dead and fibrotic or become non- functioning tissue.

That means no exchange of oxygen around these tissue or cell that result in decrease in lung capacity.

Fibrosis is the healed part which becomes non-functioning in the lungs ( it is like a scar if anyone gets injured and gets scar on healing on face or hands ).

In the same way fibrosis occurs in lungs after lung tissue gets injured or then healed and gets scar.

Other condition which can cause lung fibrosis?

  • Interstitial pulmonary lung fibrosis
  • Hypersensitive Pneumonitis
  • Inflammation
  • Occupational
  • Infection

If the fibrosis is more because of extensive damage to lung then it decreases the capacity of lungs and lungs may becomes contract that causes many problem.

So it is important to identify if any one have lung fibrosis.

When and how to diagnose if you have lung fibrosis or not.

Lung fibrosis is not occur in initial phase of in any type of lung injury, it occurs in a long period.

So if anyone wants to check if they have lung fibrosis or not after Covid-infection or after other  lung injury they can test after three to four weeks.

Test that can reveal if you have fibrosis or not.

  • CT Scan
  • X-ray
  • PFT

All these test should be performed after three to four weeks of covid infection.

Who are at risk of lung fibrosis?

Old age people  over 60 years with severe infection.

Severe pneumonia in both sides of lungs.

Extensive damage to lungs.

High CTTS

High Oxygen therapy also may cause fibrotic lungs.

Ventilators patient are also at high risk.

Is the lung fibrosis can be cured?

Good news is that the lung fibrosis can be cured if it is diagnosed earlier and take necessary treatment and some exercise.

Usually doctors recommends antifibrotic  medicines with steroids or lungs exercises.

Lungs exercise that you can do at your home.

Spirometry

Spirometry for increasing lung capacity

It is a special device or tool that can help very much to regain lung capacity, all you need to practice it at least three to four times in a day for better results.

In spirometry there are three balls under the tube which you needs to  blow up or make them move upward.

Blow Balloon

Blow balloons with mouth

You can also blow balloons as much as you can do, this exercise also helps to increase the capacity of lung.

Deep breath exercise

Deep breath exercise is also very helpful for fibrotic lungs recovery. All you need to do deeply inhale or exhale.

Chest physiotherapy

Physiotherapy  is also helpful for the drainage of collected secretion in the lungs that helps to open up the lungs and your doctor may recommend chest physiotherapy.

Steam inhalation

Steam inhalation is also helpful in fibrotic lungs you can take steam as your doctors prescribed the number of time in a day
It may be three or two times in a day.
